About Less Plastic Kitchen

Hi, I'm Michelle. I cook for my family nearly every day, and for years the most-used tool in my kitchen was a scratched plastic cutting board I never thought twice about.

That changed in 2023, when a team at North Dakota State University published a study estimating how many plastic particles a cutting board sheds with every cut. I looked at the grooves in my own board and started reading everything I could find about microplastics in the kitchen.

Less Plastic Kitchen is the result: practical guides that turn research into simple decisions. I start with the cutting board because it is the easiest swap with the biggest daily effect.

How I research

  • Studies first. When I quote a number, I link to where it came from, such as peer-reviewed journals or the USDA.
  • Official specs and terms. I read the product page, checkout, shipping and guarantee terms myself, and report real prices on the day I checked.
  • Real buyer feedback. I read verified reviews on independent platforms like Trustpilot to see how products hold up after the box is opened.
  • Clear about what I tested. If a review is based on research rather than months of personal use, I say so in the article.
